A psychedelic, space-funk beat set the tempo as ethereal beings floated across the dimly lit courtyard of Hawai‘i State Art Museum in downtown Honolulu. Their ensemble of kaleidoscopic prints and vintage retro garb make them seem unearthly, as if unbound by the laws of our time. No, this was not a science-fiction odyssey; this was Protea. The outer space-themed fashion show was the latest vision from Bradley Rhea, the brain behind Barrio Vintage. It was a celebration of courage and transformation as exhibited not only by the clothes—rare, vintage finds culled by Bradley himself–but by the models, many of whom were chosen for their individuality and rebellious spirits.
